Double Crochet Stitch
It uses 2 or 3 chains for the turning chain.
To work into a chain:
Yarn over hook, insert the hook into the 3rd or 4th chain from the hook, depending upon whether using 2 or 3 stitches for the turning chain.
* Yarn over hook and pull through the chain (3 loops on hook). Yarn over hook and pull through 2 loops on the hook (2 loops on hook).
Yarn over hook and pull through the remaining 2 loops on the hook (1 loop remains on hook).
To work into another stitch:
Yarn over hook, insert the hook into designated part of the stitch, and work from the asterisk * above.
Example
Chain 12 if using 3 chains for the turning chain.
Double crochet into the 4th chain from the hook and each chain across.
Will use 3 stitches for the turning chain.
The 3 skipped stitches count as 1 stitch. The first double crochet made equals the 2nd stitch. 8 more chains remain.
End up with 10 stitches.
note: If only using 2 chains for the turning chain, then chain 11 instead of 12 and double crochet into the 3rd chain from the hook instead of the 4th.
