Half Double Crochet Stitch
It uses 2 chains for the turning chain.
To work into a chain:
Yarn over hook, insert the hook into the third chain from the hook, and * pull through the chain (3 loops on hook).
Yarn over hook and pull through all 3 loops on the hook (1 loop remains on hook).
To work into another stitch:
Yarn over hook, insert the hook into designated part of the stitch (front loop, back loop, or both loops); and work from the asterisk * above.
Example
Chain 11.
Half double crochet into 3rd chain from the hook and into each chain across.
Total stitches equals 10.
The 2 skipped stitches become a turning chain and count as one of the half double crochet stitches.
The first half double crochet in stitch 3 from the hook gave a total of 2 stitches for the row. 8 more chains remain, giving a final total of 10 half double crochet stitches.
